Ruth Nortje is a South African-born, former Olympian, American sprint canoer who competed from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s. She won three medals for the United States at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo. Ruth currently works part time for Riverwalk Physical Therapy and is passionate in her endeavor to find the root of the dysfunction. Ruths passion is to now provide combined physical rehabilitation and horsemanship sessions through a program for veterans. Her desire and work is to provide this physical and emotional therapy, free to all qualified veterans, with funding provided through the Wounded Warrior Project. This program is adapted for each participant’s specific needs, and is designed to reduce stress, combat isolation and depression, while increasing core strength, balance and coordination, as well as learning horse handling and riding skills; all contributing to a healthy and active lifestyle.
